As soon as I read this post on the blog Urban Grace Interiors (you may have heard of it already), I just had to share it with you. I loved it.
The author, Erika, is an Interior Designer with her own business. She is a fabulous designer. All the pictures below are taken from her blog. Check it out sometime!
In this particular design, Erika's client asked her to create a bunk loft and bathroom out of their tiny attic space. They needed the room to sleep 6 kids if possible.
This is what Erika had to work with...
The space was small. The ceilings are low. The floors are beat up. There's no way to fit 6 beds in there!
But Erika was able to come up with a tight-fit design that incorporated everything needed. Here is a sketch of her design. She included 4 twin beds along the walls. 2 of the beds have trundle beds that pull out to sleep the additional 2 children. The narrow bathroom is located behind the beds and has access to the very back of the attic where the HVAC and Water Heater are stored.
Here are some pictures of the final results - starting with the stairwell used to access the bunk loft... do you see the hidden door in the wall below?
The hidden door opens to another stairwell that goes up to the loft space. So clever!
And here is the final result! The walls and ceilings were left with the white planks covering them. I love this. The white color keeps the space from feeling too closed in. The wood planks give the room a cottage-feel. New light fixtures hang from the ceiling to brighten the space. And the custom-built beds with trundles are beautiful. Even the wide planked wood floor has new life!
Erika chose custom fabrics to adorn the beds and pillows. Click HERE to learn more about that. And each bed has its own little bronze sconce! I love it. I love it. I love it.
The new little bathroom is accessed through a pocket door (right side). Recall my love of pocket doors from my post yesterday? Again I repeat, they are such SPACE SAVERS! The door on the left opens to the back of the attic.
The bathroom was tiled in a clean white subway tile. A very timeless choice, and it coordinates with the white planked walls in the bedroom. All the fixture chosen are very simple - including the floating sink. The polished chrome hardware adds a little bit of a modern vibe.
Next to the toilet are 6 hooks to hang the 6 towels - 1 for each kid. I love hooks too!
Isn't that all just lovely?
Who else wants an attic you can transform into what Erika has created here?
MEEEE!!!
